Merry Christmas 2015

December 2015

So as not to accused of procrastinating, I am starting this Christmas missive early this year. It's three days before Christmas, but it don't worry, it may be New Years before we finish and actually get this in the mail.

Sad news first, Maximilian is no longer with us. Throat cancer was the diagnosis. We all miss the old grouch but Carlotta is helping to fill the void by singing to us every time she carries a yarn ball or toy especially in the wee hours.

Work continues being steady. Susan put in many extremely long days from spring through most of the fall, but last month she was down to 45 hours weeks. I'm still planning to retire in August and it looks good for Susan to join me in two years. We're both counting the days.

Dalyte is enjoying another new barn. The one she moved to last fall was just too muddy. This one is much drier with better amenities (electric lights in the barn!) and is only 3 miles from home. This means that Susan can ride on the spur of the moment; can work late and still stop by the barn on the way home!

This was our year to start remodeling. Like my friend Louie says “I only need two tools in my tool box and I can do anything; a check book and a phone book!” It started late spring when we had the roof on the work shop replaced. The contractor did a great job, professional and easy to work with, so we had him replace the carpeting in the master bedroom with wood laminate, and while he was here we also had him replace the carpeting in the sun room with tile. And he painted both rooms. They look wonderful but as he was finishing we noticed that the roof was leaking in the garage, front and back where the valleys join to the house. After inspection we ended up having him replace the roof, house and garage. We really appreciated the quality of his work and will probably have him back next year.

Susan when not working kept busy knitting, hand and machine; lots hats and socks. She went to many weekend retreats over the year and still enjoys cooking breakfast at the local shelter.

I checked with my darling. This is a short letter. We can't think of anything else to share.

From Susan….one of our traditions is to save all our Christmas cards to open and read at our Christmas breakfast. So here I sit, Christmas day thinking of all our friends and family, realizing how blessed we truly are, and have decided to send you our seasonal greetings the old fashion way.

God's blessings to you for the coming year.
